TRANS BIRTH FUND

The Trans Birth Fund sustains my capacity to provide life saving doula care to Trans humans in their birthing journeys. Unfortunately, pregnancy, birth and postpartum support and care is almost entirely exclusively to service and affirm the experiences of cis-gendered, heterosexual couples and this leaves our queer community vulnerable to invalidation, discrimination and neglect, I am on a mission to change this.

I work with families through their pregnancies, births and well into their postpartum to provide care that affirms their identities, provides care that is individualised and unique to the trans experience, advocacy to ensure they get the best out of their additional care providers, tailored education so my clients can make informed decision right for them, and care that provides physical, emotional and mental comfort and nourishment.

In the picture to the right, is a couple ive just supported through the birth of their beautiful healthy baby. The birthing parent, a Trans-man who transitioned during his teen years, and lives with disability always thought it was unlikely he’d be able to have his own children, but always wanted to be a Dad. Finding his beautiful husband and starting their family has been joy filled and helped him feel more at home in his body than he ever has, “Birthing and pregnancy was an extremely empowering experience for me. I’ve never felt so at home and capable in my body.”

I worked with this couple from early on in their pregnancy to build a trusting relationship, learning about these two humans, their histories and what they value (and how much they both make me laugh), educating them on birth physiology, care options available, medical intervention, and supporting them to prepare for their postpartum.

I was on call from 38 weeks and available to them always via the phone.

The birth was of their baby was magical, it was a marathon- 64 hours before baby was in arms, and I cared for them throughout.

Sadly, after baby was born, the birthing father experienced a postpartum haemorrhage, and a complication in surgery that left him in the intensive care unit in an induced coma, separated from his new born baby and husband.
Like the trooper he is, he made a quick recovery and after a few days was able to unite with his family. You can image the stress and deep grief of this experience on a newly formed family and for his husband it was terrifying, fearful he was losing the love of his life.

Your donations go directly to funding my care of this family in the wake of their eventful birth and helping them heal and recover to repair from these complications.
